(May
20,
2013) - Once Dave McKnight took the
lead in the Must See Racing SuperModified
feature, the outcome of the race was decided
at Anderson Speedway on Monday.
McKnight used a classic high, low move
coming off the fourth corner on lap 22 to
pass early leader Jim Paller. From there he
pulled away from Paller and the rest of the
field.
Over the final 28 laps McKnight almost
lapped the entire field, taking the
checkered flag on the bumper of third place
finisher Jimmy McCune with Paller slightly
further ahead.
Paller took the lead from the pole position
chased by Kyle Vanderpool, but the driver
clearly on the move was McKnight, who was
running fifth after the first lap.
He used the outside line to pass McCune on
lap four down the back straight and six laps
later passed Brian Gringras with a power
move on the outside entering turn three.
McCune passed Vanderpool for third on lap 18
and pressed Paller for second the remainder
of the distance but was unable to complete
the pass. Sondi Eden moved into fourth by
slipping outside of Vanderpool on lap 35.
McKnight, who won at Winchester Speedway on
Sunday, made it two wins in a row to open
the season.
At the checkers McKnight finished
12.5-seconds ahead of Paller with McClure,
Eden and Vanderpool rounding out the top
five.
“We had a great race car,” McKnight said.
He said the crew hit on the right set-up for
Anderson Speedway.
In the opening race for the International
Outlaw Figure-8 Series, several cars were
knocked out of contention before a lap was
completed.
Front runners Jeff Swinford and Mike Riddle
tangled in turn four and three cars
including Johnny Hargraves, Larry Swinford
and Manny Agular crashed in turn three.
Jeff Swinford, Riddle and Agular were able
to make repairs and return to action.
Charlie Hargraves made a nifty move on the
second lap climbing from third place to the
lead with an inside move on both Ben Tunney
and early leader Curtis Chapman.
Once outfront Hargraves maintained a
comfortable margin over Ben Tunney and
Austin Tunney, the only other two cars on
the lead lap, until lap 30.
With the Tunney brothers glued to his rear
bumper, Hargraves blocked several attempts
by Ben Tunney to make an outside pass.
Jesse Tunney used a cross over move on lap
43 to take the second spot entering turn one
and started to again close on Hargraves.
Jesse Tunney made a final hard charge into
turn three but wasn’t able to get along side
of Hargraves.
Hargraves got the win followed by Jesse and
Ben Tunney with Chapman and Chuckie
Hargraves rounding out the top five.
