Beaver, Perry, Edsall, Allman and Abbott Score Wins During Season Championships

J
oe Beaver snagged the Ed Martin Supertruck feature win while Jeff Perry scored a knockout punch in the street stock headliner Saturday evening during the Season Championships at Anderson Speedway.  Rob Allman survived to take the Immediadent Figure 8 main with James Edsal, III capturing the Newco Metals Legend feature and Trevor Abbott bringing home the checker in the Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Pro Oval.

Ronnie Rose led the Ed Martin Supertruck feature from the get-go.  Josh Poore was glued to his tailgate.  Rose's mount started to noticeably slow with Poore attempting to make the outside pass on the main straightaway on lap 31.  Suddenly, Poore ran out of race track after contact with Rose.  Racing continued with Joe Beaver taking the lead for good at this juncture and sailing on to his 5th win of the year and the 2008 Supertruck points championship.  Trailing were Rod Phipps, Jerry Faucett, Josh Timmerman and Poore to round out the top five.  Phipps was the heat winner with Rose fast qualifier at 13.841 seconds.

Jeff Perry waited until the last Street Stock point race of the season to capture the checkered flag but consistency all season brought home the 2008 Street Stock point championship.  Following Perry to the checker were Danny Acrey II, Rich Boyer, Rob Allman and Abe Puckett to round out the top five.  Randy Hoppes and Allman were prelim winners with Perry fast timer at 13.998 seconds.

Quite a battle raged in the Newco Metals Legends main event with Doug Dugger, Billy Smith and James Edsal, III all battling for their share of the lead.  Edsal was able to make the race winning pass on Dugger following a yellow flag about midway and went on to claim his first win of the season.  Chasers at the end were Dugger, Smith, John Robbins and Shane Cullen in that order.  John Robbins, the defending point Champion, defended his title and waltzed away with the 2008 Legend point championship.  Robbins and Mike George were heat winners with Smith fast qualifier at 14.269 seconds.

In the Immediadent Figure 8's, the demolition derby got here two weeks early!  On the first start Josh Tharp tangled with Shawn Cullen and Jeff Swinford with Tharp the only restarter.  On start #2,  Tharp and Ronnie Rose went straight to the wall at the green, eliminating Rose and sending Tharp to the infield disqualified for unsportsmanlike driving. Rob Allman jumped to the lead on the third start with Ranny Hinton glued to his bumper for the distance.  Mike Riddle, Jr; PJ Swallows and Randy Counceller rounded out the top five.  Rob Allman captured the 2008 Figure 8 Drivers Championship while Ranny Hinton came home the 2008 Figure 8 Owners Champion.  Brandon Leisure captured the heat with Rose fast timer at 15.151.

Persistency paid off for Trevor Abbott in the Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Pro feature.  Abbott was the early leader before being passed by Randy Hoppes on lap 10.  Hoppes began to slow late in the race, and for good reason when his right front wheeling came sailing off.  Abbott re-took the lead and went on to his third win of the year over Andy Keller, Jerry Baker, Elliott McKinney and Donnie Ellis, Jr.  Randy Hoppes dominated from early in the season and was crowned the 2008 Front Wheel Drive Pro Champion.  Andy Keller and Ray Zirkle were heat winners with Abbott fast qualifier at 15.959 seconds.
