Six to Little 500 Hall of Fame in '09

Six well-known Little 500 personalities are slated for induction into the Little 500 Hall of Fame here on Saturday, May 23, part of “Little 500 Week” in Anderson.

From the historic era (1948 to 1975) are Johnny Auxter, Karl Busson, and Clare Lawicki, while from the modern era comes Tony Elliott, Tray House, and Brian Tyler.

Auxter, of Lindsey, Ohio, competed in the Little 500 from 1964 to 1995 as a car owner and driver (1967 to 1971). His entries completed 6,085 laps in Little 500 competition, leading 71, with eight top-10 finishes.

Busson, of Toledo, Ohio, is the winner of the 1968 Little 500. He made three starts here from 1965 to 1968, with two top-5 finishes. Of the 1,440 laps Busson completed, he led 409.

Lawicki, of Madison Heights, Mich., competed at the Little 500 as a driver from 1954 to 1967. In ten appearances he finished second in 1961 and ’62, and won the pole position in 1961. He completed 3,366 laps in Little 500 competition.

Elliott, of Warsaw, Ind., has made 15 Little 500 starts from 1990 to 2008. He has scored five top-5 finishes including second in 2008 and third in 1995 and ’98. Elliott’s 5,459 laps at the Little 500 place him fifth among all drivers here, and he has led seven races for a total of 928 laps.

House, of Chesterfield, Ind., made 12 Little 500 starts as a driver from 1984 to 2004, and was the winning crew chief in 2008. He won the pole position here in 1997 and ’98, and has scored four top-5 finishes including fourth in 1996. House has completed 3,460 laps, leading three races for 134 laps.

Tyler, of Parma, Mich., is the 2006 Little 500 winner. In 15 starts here from 1991 to 2008, he has completed 4,934 laps and scored four top-5 finishes. Tyler has led four races for a total of 376 laps.

The inductions will take place at Anderson Speedway at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, with support from Anderson Speedway, Hoosier Tire Midwest, Bell Racing Company, Big Joe’s Services, and the Little 500 Festival. Tickets are available to the public, with information available at (765) 288-4587.
