J.P. and Jim Crabtree Jr. Planning for Street Stock Season

(March 8, 2011) – Returning to his roots, CRA Super Series veteran Jim Crabtree Jr. plans to compete at Anderson Speedway in the Street Stock division with a two-car operation as his 16-year-old son J.P begins his career at Madison County racetrack.

“I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season,” said Jim Crabtree Jr. “We are working on finishing up J.P.’s car and then will get mine race ready. We hope to have two cars at the opener, but it may be a few weeks into the season before I’m racing.”

Starting racing at age 5, J.P. Crabtree has gained experience in Go-carts, Naskarts and Champ Karts. This will be his first season in stock car racing with the jump to Street Stock division. J.P. will drive a car owned by Don Gnat.

“J.P. is excited about racing this year and has some confidence going into his first season. I’ve told him the key is to finish races and complete as many laps as possible.

Finishing in the top five in points would be a nice accomplishment, “added Jim Crabtree Jr.

J.P Crabtree has been working on his father’s team for several years learning about the racecars which was the key to Jim.

“I told J.P. from the beginning that if he wanted to race that he had to learn how to work on the cars. He has done a great job on the Late Model and the Street Stock will be a great experience for him. He knows if he tears it up he will be fixing it. ”

Jim Crabtree Jr. will additionally compete in select races with the CRA Super Series making appearances at Anderson, Winchester Speedway, Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis and possibly Columbus Motor Speedway. It’s also a possibility for him to make additional starts with the CRA Street Stocks.

The elder Crabtree has made 142 starts with the CRA Super Series scoring wins at Shady Bowl Speedway and Anderson. He has collected 73 top 10 finishes and turned in three performances of fourth in the season standings.

The racing season begins for the Crabtree’s during the season debut for Street Stocks at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, April 9.
