Harmon Gets FWD Oval Victory; Phipps, Jennings Get Heat Wins

(January 10, 2012) – Kevin Harmon has never raced in an Aqua Systems New Year’s Day Bash before, but driving the championship winning car he captured the Front Wheel Drive oval feature.

The 20-lap feature went caution flag free on Saturday at Anderson Speedway with 23 race teams making an appearance.

Marshall Clark grabbed the early lead chased by Andy Jennings, Trevon Henson, Harmon and Robert Eversole. But within five laps Harmon was running second and set his sights on Clark.

Just past the halfway point Chris Jennings slipped inside of both Jonathon Morgan and Andy Jennings entering turn four to move into the top five.

With Harmon closing on Clark, he finally made the pass on lap 14 with an inside move on the front straight. Three laps later Paul Phipps got outside of Clark in turn one to grab the second spot.

Harmon went on to win by more than two seconds over Phipps with Clark, Henson and Chris Jennings rounded out the top five.

Chris Jennings led the entire distance to win the first of the two heat races with Harmon running a close second after using an inside move to pass Henson at the halfway point.

In the second heat race Paul Phipps grabbed the lead at the start and was able to keep 2011 track champion Jeff Williams at bay to record the win.
