Kirby Wins EDCO Welding Street Stock Opener

By Ken de la Bastide

(April 9, 2012) –
Jimmy Kirby took advantage of the double file restart by using the outside groove to pass early leader Colby Lane and went on to record the EDCO Welding Street Stock feature.

Lane led the first 14 laps by using the low line to keep Kirby at bay. The first of two caution flags waved on lap 15 when Billy VanMeter spun in turn two. With Kirby lined up on the outside for the double-file restart, Kirby powered into the lead entering turn one.

The final caution flag waved on lap 16 when VanMeter and Todd Marsh got together in turn two with the end result being both cars spinning.

With Lane on the outside, Josh Myers in the low groove was able to grab the second spot on the restart entering turn one.

Following Kirby to the finish were Myers, Lane, Rickie Tharp and Tyler Marsh.

In the first of two heat races, Steve Raper Jr. led the entire distance with the only pass among the front runners coming on the fourth circuit when Tyler Marsh got inside of Todd Marsh entering turn three.

Following Raper to the checkers were Tyler Marsh, Todd Marsh, Danny Adams and Bruce McFall.

In the second heat race, Kirby took the lead from Frankie Oakes on the third lap and went on to record the victory. Tharp came home second followed by Oakes, VanMeter and Myers.
