Cherry Wins IOFS Super Karts; Acree, Shores Heat Victors

By Ken de la Bastide

(July 4, 2012) –
Ryan Cherry used the draft and perfect timing to pass Joel Shores and David Reynolds to win the International Outlaw Figure-8 Super Karts feature at Anderson Speedway on Marsh Figure-8 Madness night.

With an inversion of 12 for the start there was plenty of action from the start as the faster karts made their way to the front. Joel Shores started on the inside of the third row and before the first lap was completed moved to the point.

The first caution flag was brought out on lap six when Josh Shores lost the right rear tire coming off the fourth corner. Joel Shores led at the time chased by Jerry Reynolds and David Reynolds.

But before the race could be restarted five karts got together on the back straight bringing out the red flag. That action eliminated Angie Goodin, Elvin Acree, Ben Smith, Randy Caldwell and Shawn Kidwell from action.

Two laps later Cherry made the pass for the lead and went on to win by .108-seconds over Cherry, David and Jerry Reynolds and Garry Taylor.

The first heat race was won by Acree who slipped inside early leader Smith. Acree was followed to the checkers by Cherry and David Reynolds.

Joel Shores passed Taylor with an inside move entering turn three to grab the lead and went on to post the victory in the second heat race. Taylor finished second followed by Goodin, who bounced off the front straight wall on the second lap.

Acree set a new track record during qualifying turning a lap at 17.798-seconds, which barely eclipsed the mark set by Cherry on April 21 at 17.8-seconds. Cherry was second quick with a time of 17.864-seconds followed by David Reynolds at 18.062-seconds.
