Ellis Gets Fourth Figure 8 Win

By Ken de la Bastide

(August 21, 2012) –
It was a good night for Donnie Ellis Jr. in G.W. Pierce Front Wheel Drive Figure-8 action at Anderson Speedway on Mitch Smith Auto Service night.

Ellis recorded not only his third heat win of the year, but also recorded his fourth feature victory and second in a row.

Kevin Henson took the early lead in the feature event, in what would become a race of attrition for the division.

But Ellis got inside of Henson entering turn three on the second lap and from there pulled away from the field. Mike Alley passed Henson on the third circuit coming off the fourth corner.

The only bobble Ellis had was when he got sideways exiting the fourth corner with less than five laps remaining, which allowed Alley to close.

But when the checkered flag waved it was Ellis winning by 3.3-seconds over Alley with Mike Harrold finishing third.

Ellis had to work a little harder to record the heat win after running fifth after the first lap.

He passed Harry Lashure on lap two and Henson on lap three to move into the third spot behind Alley and Mark Allman. But on lap four Allman made contact with the turn one retaining wall.

From there Ellis used the outside line entering turn two to pass Alley and go onto the win. Following Ellis and Alley to the checkers were Henson, Rickie Craig and Lashure.

Alley set fast time for the fifth time in 2012 with a lap of 20.722-seconds. Allman and Lashure posted the second and third quick times.
