Hargraves Claims Second IOFS Victory; Henson, Dane Earn Front Wheel Drive Wins

(June 14, 2013) -
It was an eventful 50 lap International Outlaw Figure-8 Series race for Charlie Hargraves, but in the end he recorded a close win Friday at Anderson Speedway.

It was the second win of the year at Anderson Speedway for Hargraves holding off defending national champion Jeremy Banderhoof.

Visiting Kentucky driver Artie Ware took the early lead, but Hargraves was able to make an inside pass on lap 19 entering turn one. On lap 23 with slower traffic in front of the leaders, Hargraves and Ware made contact. Ware’s night ended a lap later with a suspension problem.

Vanderhoof took advantage of lapped traffic to slip inside of Hargraves on lap 24 entering turn one. With tire smoke billowing from the right rear tire, Hargraves refused to back off.

When Vanderhoof got trapped by slower traffic, Hargraves was able to regain the lead on lap 32 and went onto the victory.

Hargraves was followed to the checkers by Vanderhoof, Josh Tharp, Richard Dickens and Chuckie Hargraves.

“I’m still trying to figure out how we won,” Hargraves said. “We broke something in the back of the car. We weren’t the fastest tonight, but I was determined to win.”

Jerry Dane took advantage of slower traffic on the final lap to pass Chris Jennings entering turn three to record his third Front Wheel Drive oval feature.

Jennings and Dane ran side by side on lap 18 with Jennings getting the advantage on the outside down the back straight.

As Jennings went down the back straight, he got caught behind slower traffic. When Jennings went high, Dane used the inside line to make the winning pass.

After the race, Jennings was disqualified for failing technical inspection which gave second to Marshall Clark Jr.

Kevin Henson charged back from the fourth position in the final nine laps to claim his third Front Wheel Drive Figure-8 win of the year and the first with IOFS competition.

Henson passed teammate Elliott McKinney with an inside move entering turn three on lap 17 and went on to record the victory. McKinney came home in second followed by Nick Warner.

Racing action returns to Anderson Speedway with the AERCO Heating & Cooling Night at the Races on Saturday, June 15 featuring the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series, WMDH ThunderCars, Front Wheel Drives Oval and Mini Cups.
