Veteran racer and fan favorite Darwin Blankenship plans to compete in the full Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stock season at Anderson Speedway, with goals of challenging for the division championship in 2005.

“I’m looking forward to the upcoming Street Stock season and we are focusing on the title,” said Blankenship. “We have done a lot of work on our car and think we’ll show some improvement in 2005. I’m also excited to be directly working with my son (J.D.) and developing him into a front-running driver at Anderson.”

The New Castle competitor has been racing at Anderson Speedway for several years and was crowned the Figure 8 champion in 1986 and 1988. He is also a four-time winner of the National Crown.

Last year, Blankenship drove for Danny Acrey and placed eighth in the final Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stock point standings. He scored one feature victory, six top-five finishes and eight top 10s. Ronnie Phipps made one appearance in his No. 74, scoring a feature win during the season opening event in April.

The previous four seasons, Blankenship has finished among the top 10 in the final standings. He has placed fourth twice, 2001 and 2003.

Blankenship will drive for his son J.D. in 2005 with sponsorship backing from New Castle Ford, Scooter’s Bar & Grill, Auto Image and Low Cost Pharmacy.
