Kevin Rhodus Advances to Insight ThunderCars

After several successful seasons in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives, Anderson racer Kevin Rhodus has elected to compete full-time in the Insight ThunderCar Oval division in 2005. He is aiming to challenge for Rookie of the Year honors in the upcoming ThunderCar season.

“I’m looking forward to racing in the ThunderCar division this year,” said Kevin Rhodus. “I learned a tremendous amount competing in the Front Wheel Drive division, but it was time for a change and to move up to ThunderCars.”

Rhodus raced in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives the previous two seasons, placing third in the 2003 standings. In 2004, he raced with the division on a full-time basis until the later part of the season, when he focused on building his ThunderCar for the upcoming season.

In 2004, Rhodus produced one feature victory, two fast times, seven top-five finishes and 10 top 10s. He recorded his main event win on Saturday, July 2, during the opening night of Titan Auto Insurance Independence Celebration Weekend, holding off eventual division champion Chris Teepe and front-runner Sam Folsom.

“I expect to endure a learning curve with moving to the ThunderCars,” added Rhodus. "It’s a different type of car and will take some getting used to. My goal is to finish as many races possible and challenge for Rookie of the Year honors.”

The Insight ThunderCar Oval division makes its next appearance at Anderson Speedway on March 12 during the opening weekend of March Madness. The first points race for the division is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, joining the regular Saturday Night division for opening night.
