Curtis Chapman Gunning for Figure 8 and Street Stock Championships

After several recent successful seasons at Anderson Speedway in the Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s and Terry RV Sales & Service Street Stocks, Anderson racer Curtis Chapman is focusing on battling for both divisional championships in the upcoming 2005 season.

“I’m really looking forward to this season racing in both the Figure 8 and Street Stock divisions,” said Curtis Chapman. “I have the best Street Stock that I have ever driven and hopefully with some improvements in our Figure 8 car, we can contend for both championships.”

Chapman has been competing at the quarter-mile oval of Anderson Speedway for many seasons, earning the 2000 Insight ThunderCar Figure 8 Championship and Rookie of the Year honors. One of his career highlights took place in 2001, winning the prestigious National Crown in the Figure 8 division.

In four seasons of full-time competition in the Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s, Chapman has placed among the top five on three occasions and the other year he finished sixth. He has also been a regular fixture with the Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks, recording two top-five point finishes.

Last year, Chapman earned fifth-place honors in the Figure 8 division. He wheeled his familiar No. 8 to multiple feature wins and additionally recorded three fast times, eight top-five finishes and 11 top 10s.

Chapman also raced a partial schedule in Shelley Worley’s No. 8 Street Stock, splitting the driving responsibilities with Brent Busby during a portion of the season. The team finished ninth in the final points tally with two top-five finishes and eight top 10s.

The 2005 season already has began on a positive note for Chapman as he took top honors in the Insight ThunderCar Oval feature during the 7th Annual Bush Trophy Case & Embroidery New Year’s Day Bash.

The regular season for Chapman begins on Saturday, April 2, opening night for the Figure 8’s and Street Stocks.

“I’m going to concentrate hard this year on finishing races. That is the most important part of challenging for track championships at Anderson Speedway. It looks like both the Figure 8 and Street Stocks will see larger car counts in 2005, so it’s going to be important to finish as many races as possible.””

In both the Street Stock and Figure 8 divisions, Chapman will continue to wheel the No. 8 owned by Shelley Worley. He will receive sponsorship support from Chapman Construction and Bike Time.

After enjoying a great amount of success in the Figure 8 and Street Stocks, Chapman is looking at the potential of moving into the Ed Martin Auto Group Super Truck division in the future.

Chapman will next appear at Anderson Speedway during March Motorsports Madness on Saturday, March 12.
