The Star Press Spring Championship Featured at Anderson Speedway This Weekend

Anderson Speedway returns to racing action this weekend with The Star Press Spring Championships on Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21. The MAX / WLBC Friday Night Summer Series will be featured on May 20, showcasing Legends, Insight ThunderCars in Oval and Figure 8 action along with Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 racing.

The Star Press Spring Championship concludes on Saturday, May 21, featuring Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks, Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks and Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s.

Daniel Russell has recorded three feature wins to start the Legends season and has built a 48 point lead on 2004 division runner-up John Robbins. Two top-five performances have placed T.J. Sneva in third position with Scott McGinley and Eric Black rounding out the top five in the point standings.

William Coffman sits atop the Insight ThunderCar Oval points tally, after claiming top honors on May 6. Alexandria’s Alice Riall ranks second after producing two top-three finishes. She trails Coffman by 22 markers. Roy Grissom Sr. has rose to third spot with A.J. Jones and Robert Brumback completing the top five.

Anderson’s Paris Swallows Jr. continues to pace the Insight ThunderCar Figure 8’s with an 11 point lead on Mike Peters. Third is Robert Brumback with May 6 feature winner Terry Malone Jr. holding the fourth spot. Billy Riddle rounds out the top five performers after three events.

Dustin Burge has a nine point cushion in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval division. Three top five finishes have placed him in first position. Early season winner Kreigh Leever is second with Nick Warner, Sam Folsom and Travis Erhart filling out the top five.

After a dramatic victory in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s on May 6, Warner extended his points lead to 30 markers over Mt. Summit’s Keith Morris. The remainder of the top five includes Allen Wagner, Jeffrey Reichardt and Randy Owen.

On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 8. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under get in free.

New Castle’s Tony Broyles has began the Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTruck season on a great note, posting four top-five finishes and three fast times in the opening four races. He leads last week’s feature runner-up Mike Mendenhall by 166 points. Veteran Bob Lemen is third with Tom Miller and Ronnie Rose completing the top five.

Collecting a division leading fifth feature victory on May 14, Rich Boyer now holds a 174 point lead on Rod Phipps in the Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stock point standings. Six top 10’s have placed Curtis Chapman third in the point rundown with Bruce McFall and Danny Acrey ll rounding out the top five.

Defending Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 champion Jeff Swinford has recorded three top five and four top 10s to hold a 40 point margin over Jason Pitts. Ranking third is Michael Phipps with Rod Phipps fourth and Ronnie Rose fifth.

On Saturday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing beginning at 8. Admission is $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under get in free. On Saturday Night, watch the NASCAR race at the track on our big screen.
