Thousands of fans filled Anderson Speedway Friday night for the Families Forever / Primerica Free Night on May 27 for the MAX / WLBC Summer Series.

Markleville’s Terry Malone Jr. jumped off to a huge lead and didn’t look back in the Insight ThunderCar Figure 8 Feature. He took the Herb Rose-owned machine to the Texas Roadhouse Winner’s Circle for the second time this season. Anderson drivers Paris Swallows Jr., Robert Brumback, Roy Grissom Jr. and Mike Peters rounded out the top five.

Anderson’s Billy Riddle used a lap seven pass in turns one and two to take a lead in the Insight ThunderCar Oval Feature that he would never relinquish. However, it wasn’t without a battle as Anderson’s Mike Rinker found himself in contention by lap 12.

Rinker and Riddle were side-by-side in turns three and four. The two traded paint before Riddle was able to take back the advantage. Rinker’s chance at a top-five finish ended when he tangled with the third-place car of Anderson’s Lonnie Burton in turn four on the 19th of 20 laps. Anderson’s Brandon Phillips, Alexandria’s Alice Riall, Brumback and Anderson’s A.J. Jones all ended up with top five finishes as a result of Rinker’s and Burton’s misfortune.

Riddle also took the first Thunder Oval heat race, while Westfield’s Clint Groves captured the second heat.

Dustin Burge captured top honors in the first of two Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval Features. Burge and Anderson’s Brad Stevens battled for the checkered flag during the entire event. Burge grabbed the first position on lap one. Burge ended up holding off Stevens by a car length for the checkered flag. Kreigh Leever, Nick Warner and Sam Folsom filled the top five.

Anderson’s Randy Owen notched his first Chayppy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive victory in the second feature after making a pass of Greenfield’s Brandon Tweedy in the third turn on the 12th of 20 laps. Tweedy roared out to a sizeable early lead, only to see Owen systematically work his way back into contention. Tweedy ended up second followed by Devin Mitchell, Jerry Smith and Mt. Summit’s Keith Morris to complete the top five.

The Front Wheel Drive Oval heats were a family affair as Dustin Burge won the first heat and his brother Travis Burge took the second heat.

The Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 Feature saw Teepe surge ahead after the first lap for a comfortable victory. It was his first figure 8 win of what has been a tough start this year. He held off a hard-charging Nick Warner at the checkered flag. Third was Brian Smith, Randy Owen and Allen Wagner rounding out the top five.
