Fans were treated to some outstanding racing during The Star Press Saturday Night Series at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, June 11. Action included a last-to-first charge in the Terry’s RV Sales and Service Street Stock feature, dominating win in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 feature, a huge battle for the win in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval feature and a two-car battle in the Boss Hogg Catering and Jerky Figure 8 feature.

Anderson’s Rich Boyer picked up his sixth feature win of the season in the Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stock feature. However, the way he ended up in the Texas Roadhouse Winner’s Circle may have been the result of one of the best driving exhibitions seen on the world’s fastest quarter-mile oval in some time.

Boyer, the current points leader, was moving up through the field when near-disaster struck on the sixth lap of the 30-lap event. Boyer was loose heading into the fourth turn when he made contact with Anderson’s Curtis Chapman. Boyer spun, bringing out the yellow flag and relegating him to the rear of the pack.

Boyer charged all the way back to the top five by the 12th lap and steadily moved his way up to second spot by the 23rd circuit. He then passed race leader Randy Hoppes of Markleville on the 29th lap with a tremendous move in traffic on the low side in turn four. Hoppes ended up second with Danny Acrey II, Chapman and Ryan Buckner rounding out the top five.

In heat race action, Boyer also put on a tremendous charge to win the first street stock heat race, while Anderson’s Jason Puckett took top honors in the second heat. Boyer led qualifying with a time of 14.081 seconds.

Chapman and Anderson’s Mike Riddle were involved in a dandy two-car battle in the Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 feature. Chapman jumped to the lead from the pole after qualifying with a time of 20.396 seconds and drawing a straight-up start. Riddle started sixth and made his way up to third after the first lap and moved into second by the 11th lap.

The two leaders then pulled away from the rest of the field as the traffic in the crossover became heavy. Chapman held off Riddle by a car length at the finish line. Anderson drivers Rod Phipps, Michael Phipps and Dale Phillips completed the top five.

Michael Phipps was victorious in the first heat, while Jeff Swinford took the checkered flag in the second heat.

Anderson’s Sam Folsom scored his third feature win of the season and his second in as many nights in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval feature. He was part of a seven-car pack that broke away from the 22-car field and jockeyed for position during much of the 15-lap main event.

Folsom took the lead on the 13th lap when Anderson drivers Travis Erhart and Travis Burge made contact. At the finish, Folsom was followed by Erhart, Nick Warner, Travis Burge and Gaston’s Brian Harmon.

Alexandria’s Kevin Harmon won his first heat, while Muncie’s Douglas Newlin took the checkered flag in the second heat after Brian Harmon was penalized for exceeding his qualifying time and the car driven by Pendleton’s Daniel Cook was disqualified following technical inspection.

Anderson’s Nick Warner made up for a tough second-place finish during the MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series by dominating the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 feature. Warner passed Muncie’s Cale Ramey in the crossover on the third lap after picking up a lot of momentum coming off the second turn. Burge was second followed by Anderson drivers Allen Wagner and Brad Stevens and Ramey to complete the top five.

Anderson Speedway returns to racing on Friday, June 17, with the Boss Hogg Pitt BBQ & Catering Hogg Wild Fun Weekend. The MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series will feature Legends, Insight ThunderCars in Oval and Figure 8 action and Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives on the Oval and Figure 8.

On Saturday Night, June 18, The Star Press Saturday Night Series will showcase Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks, Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks and Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s.
