Anderson Speedway concluded the Insight Double Thunder Power Weekend on Saturday, July 30 with an exciting lineup of racing action on The Star Press Saturday Night Series. Greenfield’s Eric Evans scored the Insight Thunder Enduro 200 victory with Anderson’s Ronnie Rose winning the Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTruck win and Rich Boyer claiming the checkered flag in the Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks.

Forty-seven drivers were on hand for the ThunderCar Enduro with Billy Riddle posting the fastest lap in qualifications with a time of 15.385 seconds. The top 10 qualifiers were separated by just 0.116 seconds.

At the drop of the green flag in the 200-lap event, Eric Evans darted in the top spot. In the early stages, Evans led with Chuck Cook, David Short, Rod Phipps and Johnny Magee the front runners. On the 18th circuit, Phipps sailed to the top of the leader board. Once out front, he controlled the remainder of the first half of the event.

Phipps was able to put a lot of the race contenders a lap down prior to the halfway break. At the 100-lap mark, Phipps was followed by former Enduro winner Carl Muffley. Third was Magee with Evans and Ronnie Rose completing the top five. The top four cars remained on the lead lap as the teams had a 10 minute break.

After the break, Phipps led until the 107th go-around when Muffley charged to first position. The Plymouth racer held the point until he dropped out of competition with mechanical problems. That propelled Eric Evans to the top spot on the 110th lap. Phipps returned to the point on the 114th circuit.

For the first occasion, Magee took the lead on the 122nd lap after driving around Phipps. Once he was up front, Magee then pulled away. It appeared as he was heading to the Texas Roadhouse Winner’s Circle. With less then 20 laps remaining, Magee tangled with some lap cars, forcing him to spin into the infield.

Evans charged past to grab the lead and cruised to the victory. At the finish, Magee recovered to place second with Phipps in third spot. Billy Riddle finished a solid fourth with Chuck Cook completing the top five.

Ronnie Rose continued his dominance in the Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks with recording his sixth feature victory of the season. DT’S R Bar Rookie Ric Pfeifer grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag in the 40-lap event. On the third circuit after a restart, Rose darted underneath Pfeifer to move into first position.

Rose was then able to pull away from the other race contenders. Joe Beaver made a charge to close behind Rose as the two battled for the checkered flag. Then the caution flag waved on the 30th circuit and Beaver suffered a flat tire.

During the final 10 laps, Rose enjoyed a comfortable lead to grab the win. At the finish, point’s leader Tony Broyles grabbed runner-up honors with last week’s winner Mark Jones in third spot. Pfeifer and Derek Price rounded out the top five.

In preliminary action, Beaver and Price scored flag-to-flag victories during heat race action. Andrew Brown grabbed his second fast time of the season with a time of 13.526 seconds.

Rich Boyer responded from mechanical problems last week to return to the Texas Roadhouse Winner’s Circle in the Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks. Jon Conklin paced the opening three circuits with Jeff Powers then up front on the fourth go-around.

On the 14th lap, Boyer charged around Powers to grab the top spot. During the closing stages of the event, Boyer was forced to hold on with a tire that was going flat on his Street Stock. He survived a late-race restart to score the win. Danny Acrey finished in second position with Jeff Perry in third. The remainder of the top five included Ryan Buckner and Powers.

In heat race action, Bruce McFall grabbed the victory in the first heat after leader Curtis Chapman and second running Bret Miles Jr. tangled on the white flag lap. In the second heat, Jon Conklin grabbed top honors. Boyer was the fastest qualifier with an official clocking of 13.995 seconds.
