Pfeifer, Conklin, Tharp, Quakenbush and Ellis Score Victories During Lampco FCU Night at the Races

Anderson Speedway returned to racing action on Saturday, August 5, during the Lampco Federal Credit Union Night at the Races. Five divisions were featured with Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks, Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s, Lampco FCU Street Stocks, Indy URL Stock Cars and Trucks.

In the Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks feature, Ric Pfeifer visited the O’Reilly Auto Parts Winner’s Circle for the second occasion of the 2006 season. The 40-lap main event began with David Brown pacing the opening five circuits and then Pfeifer made the race-winning pass on the fifth go-around using the outside lane.

Once Pfeifer grabbed the lead, he distanced himself from the rest of the challengers as Ronnie Rose and Joe Beaver advanced to the top of the leader board. Pfeifer then held on for the win with Rose and Beaver behind. Mark Jones and Josh Burton completed the top-five finishers.

In preliminary action, Pfeifer and David Brown earned heat race victories. Bob Lemen was fast qualifier at 13.755 seconds.

Super sub Jon Conklin held off a bunch of hard chargers to win the Lampco FCU Street Stock feature. It was his first career division victory. On the second circuit, Conklin worked around Brian Long to grab the first position.

Once Conklin began pacing the race, he was then forced to fend off several competitors during the 30-lap event. At the checkers, Conklin held on for the win. Second place went to Doug Riddle with Rod Phipps, Bret Miles Jr. and Danny Acrey ll filling out the top five.

Acrey won the first heat race with Conklin grabbing the winning hardware in the second heat. Miles was the fast qualifier with a lap of 14.353 seconds.

Josh Tharp made up for disappointment in the Best Way National Crown by scoring his second feature victory of 2006 in the Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s. Tharp got a superb jump on the start, getting the edge over Elliott McKinney.

Once Tharp was atop the leader board, he never looked back. At the finish, McKinney was second with Shawn Cullen in the third position. Fourth was Rob Allman with Ranny Hinton rounding out the top five.

Michael Phipps won the heat race with Elliott McKinney the fast qualifier after turning a fast lap of 19.372 seconds.

In the Indy URL Trucks, Stuart Quakenbush scored a flag-to-flag victory. Chasing the race winner across the finish line included Joe Axsom, Joe Hill, Kerry Roseman and Steve Blair. Heat race victories went to Steve Blair and Brad Kendall. Fast time honors went to Blair at 13.800 seconds.

Jeff Ellis was the victor of the 50-lap Indy URL Stock Car feature. Ellis grabbed first position on the fourth go-around after getting around Danny Trent. Following Ellis at the conclusion included Steve Blair, Colin Nickolai, Chad Gaskill and Stuart Quakensbush. Ellis and Quay Gregory won heat races while Blair was fast qualifier at 13.735 seconds.

Anderson Speedway returns to racing action on Friday, August 11 with the MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series featuring American Awards Legends, Insight ThunderCars & Pro ThunderCars along with Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 racing.

On Saturday, August 12, the Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks will be showcased in a 150-lap event. The Star Press Saturday Night Series will also include Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s and Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 racing.
