Racing action returned to Anderson Speedway on Friday, September 15 with the MyNDY Family Night featuring Newco Metals Legends, Insight ThunderCars, Pro ThunderCars and Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives.

After a one-week hiatus, the Newco Metals Legends returned to the MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series. Virginia racer Addison Rogers grabbed first position in the early stages from Tony Holden and never looked back, scoring his first season victory. Rogers was challenged throughout the event by J.D. Trenary of West Virginia and Frankton’s John Robbins. Rodney Smith and Beau Browning completed the top-five finishers.

In preliminary action, Rodney Smith won the first heat race with Eric Black grabbing the winning hardware in the second heat. In qualifying, John Robbins posted the top time with 13.902 seconds.

After experiencing bad luck that knocked him out of contention of the Insight ThunderCup last weekend, Lonny Burton responded with dominating the Insight ThunderCar feature and earning his first victory. For much of the race the battle occurred from second on back. At the checkers, Burton was followed by Johnathon Pitts and Nick Warner with Darryl Rogers and Tim Dick completing the top five.

Alice Riall and Jeff Eytchison won heat races while Nick Warner was the quick timer at 15.114 seconds.

In the Insight ThunderCar Pro feature, veteran Herb Rose recorded the victory holding off Rod Phipps for much of the 20-lap main event. Rose and Phipps also fended off challenges from Brandon Phillips. Fourth at the finish was Ronnie Phipps with last week’s winner Shane Cullen in fifth position.

Shane Cullen was the winner of the heat race while Rod Phipps posted the best qualifying time with an official clocking of 15.036 seconds.

The Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval produced another superb feature with Kevin Harmon returning to the Winner’s Circle. He sailed into the first position in the early stages and then held off a hard-charging Devin Mitchell and Randy Owen. The remainder of the top five included Jerry Smith and Robert Johnson.

Smith recorded the victory in the first heat race while Lenny Thompson scored the second heat victory. David Baker posted the best qualifying time at 15.951 seconds.

Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 points leader Nick Warner made a lap three pass on Robert Johnson and then cruised to his sixth victory of the season. Keith Morris placed second with Randy Owen, David Baker and Donnie Ellis completing the top five. Warner was the quick timer at 21.261 seconds.

On Saturday Night, September 16, The MyNDY Family Night will showcase Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks, Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s and Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stocks during The Star Press Saturday Night Series.

On Saturday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing beginning at 8. Admission is $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and under get in free.
