Former Anderson Speedway Street Stock Champion Bull Baker is aiming for his third consecutive NationsRent 400 pole position on Friday, July 16 during qualifying for the 38th running of the legendary short track event.

Driving the familiar No. 78 Chevrolet, Baker has captured the last two pole positions for the Sunoco Super Series most high profile event. Last year, he toured the world’s fastest quarter-mile oval in 12.101 seconds at 74.374 mph.

In 2002, Baker narrowly edged eventual NationsRent 400 winner Bobby Parsley and former series champion Joel Kauffman for the top qualifying honors. In 2001, Baker was second quickest behind 2000 Sunoco Super Series Rookie of the Year and Champion Scott Hantz.

In the Sunoco Super Series’ debut of sanctioning the legendary event in 2000, Chet Fillip set the NationsRent 400 qualifying record, with an official time of 12.056 seconds.

Baker, of Daleville, is tied for third position on the pole list. In four appearances, the Late Model veteran has joined some exclusive company. Mike Eddy, who makes his return to Anderson Speedway this year and current NASCAR star Mark Martin top the charts, both earning four pole awards. Michigan standout Butch Miller has been the events fast qualifier on three occasions.
