Sunoco Super Series Late Models
Invade Anderson Speedway on Saturday Night

Anderson
Speedway returns to racing action on Friday, September 17, with the MAX/WLBC
Friday Night Summer Series. The McCrocklin Ford & Mobility Legends, Insight
ThunderCars on the Oval and Figure 8 and Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives
will be featured on Friday night.
On Saturday Night, September 18, the Sunoco Super Series Late Models make a
final appearance at Anderson Speedway in the Sunoco 150 presented by Great Deals
Coupon Magazine. The Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stocks and Boss Hogg
Catering & Jerky Figure 8’s will also compete on the world’s fastest
quarter-mile oval.
James
Robertson collected a division leading ninth victory, extending his McCrocklin
Ford & Mobility Legends point lead to 347 markers over 2002 champion Homer Adams
Jr. Third in the title chase is John Robbins with Eric Black and Daniel Russell
completing the top five.
The tightest battle for a championship is taking place in Insight ThunderCar
Oval with Chesterfield’s Jack Taylor leading Anderson’s Tim Brown by 19 points.
Brown closed the gap on Taylor with a fourth-place showing in the most recent
event. Jim Brown is third in the standings with Rick Trueblood and A.J. Jones
comprising the top five.
A
close point race continues in Insight ThunderCar Figure 8 competition, with Jim
Brown leading Ranny Hinton by 28 points. Brown has registered 18 top-10 finishes
with Hinton scoring 12 top fives. Tim Brown ranks third in the championship
standings with rookies Elliott McKinney and Paris Swallows rounding out the top
five.
Chris
Teepe edged closer to the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive championship
with producing his 17th top-five finish on September 10. He has built a 216
point lead on Sam Folsom. Sixteen top-10 finishes have placed Chris Jennings in
third position with Randy Owen and David McHenry filling out the top five.
On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with qualifying taking center
stage at 6:30. The racing program begins at 8. Admission for adults is $6, with
children tickets for ages 6-12 at $4. Kids five and under are admitted free.
Annually
one of the best events of the season, the Sunoco Super Series Late Models return
on Saturday Night for the Sunoco 150 presented by Great Deals Coupon Magazine.
This marks the third and final appearance of the series in 2004.
Former series champion and 2003 USAR Pro Cup Northern Series Rookie of the Year
Joel Kauffman makes a return to Anderson Speedway. He joins a talented field of
drivers including point leader Chuck Barnes Jr., Canadian Legend and NationsRent
400 winner Junior Hanley and Scott Hantz, who has won the previous two events on
the Sunoco tour. April winner Jeff Lane will also be a driver to watch this
weekend.
The Midwestern Late Model Series has made 35 appearances at the Central Indiana
track, with two-time series champion Brian Ross winning nine events. Other
multiple race winners include Kenny Tweedy, Junior Hanley, Bobby Parsley and Jim
Cooper.
Several local drivers are expected to compete in the event including Bull Baker
of Daleville, Joe Beaver of Noblesville, Jim Crabtree Jr. of Muncie, Jeff Lane
of Knightstown, Alan Troxell of Middletown, Kenny Tweedy of Greenfield and Rick
Turner of Yorktown.
Anderson’s
Rich Boyer drove to his 12th top-five finish in the most recent Terry’s RV Sales
& Service Street Stocks event and holds a 323 point lead on New Castle’s Jason
Atkinson. The Terry Burton owned No. 14 driven by Joe Beaver ranks third with
Jeremy Threet and Rod Phipps rounding out the top five.
Jeff
Swinford continues to hold the first position in Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky
Figure 8 action, with a 126 point margin on Dale Phillips. Recording a division
best 11 top-five finishes, Swinford has put together an impressive season in his
quest for the title. Rookie Josh Tharp is in the championship standings with
Shawn Cullen and Curtis Chapman filling out the top five.
On Saturday, spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying set for 6:30. The
racing program begins at 8. Adult tickets are $12 with children ages 6-12 priced
at $4. Kids five and under are admitted free.
