Moyes, Burton, Harmon and Warner Win Again at Anderson Speedway

By Denny Adams

David Moyes, III, Lonny Burton, Kevin Harmon and Nick Warner returned to the O’Reilly Auto Parts Winners Circle Friday evening at Anderson Speedway to capture the Legend, ThunderCar, Front Wheel Drive Oval and Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 features in another exciting edition of the MAX-WLBC Friday Night Summer Series.

Newco Metals Legend action saw Fisher’s, James Edsall, III jump to the early lead in the feature before Moyes, an 18 year-old sensation from Cottontown, Tennessee sailed to the point on lap 7. Defending track champ Rodney Smith of Indy set out in hot pursuit but Moyes was not to be denied his second win of the year in as many visits. James Fowlkes of Georgia, Edsall and fellow Tennesseean Eric Simpson rounded out the top five. Rodney Smith and Eric Black of Plainfield were preliminary winners with Smith fast qualifier at 14.100.

Anderson’s Lonny Burton made quick work of the competition in the ThunderCar headliner as he took the point at the green flag and never relinquished it. Robbie Wyman of Muncie was chief chaser and never left Burton’s bumper as they ran flag to flag 1-2. Rounding out the top five were Andersonians Jeff Eytchison, Tom Tackett and Tim Dick. Tackett and Alexandria’s Alice Riall won heats with Anderson’s Sam Folsom quick timer at 15.010.

The Chappy’s Rent To Own Front Wheel Drives were out in force. In the figure-8 feature, Anderson’s Nick Warner continues to build toward a points “three-peat” as he sailed to feature win #7 defeating fellow Anderson residents Donnie Ellis, Jr, Jeff Wright, Bryan Wright and Andy Keller in that order. 30 cars started the oval feature and gave the fans exciting action. Jeff Wright led the first 5 laps before Tony Crum went to the point only to see his mount fail with three circuits to go. Alexandria’s Kevin Harmon inherited the lead and took it home for his 6th win of the year. Following were Jeff Wright, Alexandria’s Hanna Lundy, who sneaked into 3rd right at the checker, Anderson’s Bryan Wright and Trevor Abbott. Heat wins went to Chesterfield’s Allen Wagner and Indy’s Cody Smith while Tony Crum was fastest in time trials with a 16.289.
