Warner, Conley, Folsom and Harmon Score Friday Night Victories

By Cassie Marcum

Anderson Speedway returned to action on June 29 with the MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series featuring Kenyon Midgets, ThunderCars along with Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 racing.

Nick Warner turned in a dominating performance, leading all 10 laps of the feature and scoring his eighth win in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s. Jeff Wright was able to hold off Dennis Farver, Sr. for the second position. Farver came home third, with Tim Tharp and Donnie Ellis, Jr. rounding out the top-five finishers.

The Kenyon Midgets were back at Anderson Speedway in an action-packed 30-lap event. At lap 7, a three-car battle for the lead developed between Jeff Wimmenauer, Cale Conley, and Kyle Hamilton. The battle was on going throughout the race until lap 18 when Conley was able to get Wimmenauer loose enough for him and Hamilton to get by Wimmenauer to take over the first and second positions. Jacob Wilson, of Crawfordsville, made a late-race charge by getting around Wimmenauer for the third position and then tried to take second over from Hamilton. At the checkered, it was Conley, of Vienna West Virginia, who was able to take the win. Hamilton was second, Wilson third, along with Wimmenauer and Mitch Hoffses finishing out the top five.

In preliminary action, Wilson and Blake Fitzpatrick collected heat victories. Wilson also was the fastest qualifier with a time of 12.616 seconds.

In the ThunderCars feature, action started right from the start. On the first lap the caution was thrown when Darryl Rogers spun and Jeff Dick had no place to go and go into him. Sam Folsom was able to maintain the lead from the green to take home his fourth win of the season. Robbie Wyman, of Muncie, scored a second place finish. Jeff Eytchison was third, with Tom Tacket and Darryl Rogers finishing fourth and fifth.

In the heat races, Eytchison won the first heat with Johnathon Pitts winning the second one. Sam Folsom was the top qualifier with a time of 15.074 seconds.

Kevin Harmon once again took home the win in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Ovals. This is the seventh win for Harmon. On lap four of the 15-lap feature the caution was out when Dennis Farver, Jr. rolled on the backstretch. Farver was able to walk away from the accident after his car came to a stop up-side-down. Harmon took the checkered with a huge advantage over second place finisher Allen Wagner. Devin Mitchell, David Baker, and Pete Young rounded out the top five.

Tim Tharp and Jeremy O’Bryant won the two heats races, while Harmon scored the fastest qualifying time with a time of 16.202 seconds.
