Outlaw Figure 8 Racing Returns in 2008

Anderson Speedway officials have announced that an Outlaw Figure 8 event will return to the high banked 1/4 mile on July 4, 2008 as part of their popular "Figure 8 Madness" event. The Outlaw Figure 8's will be competing in a 50 lap showdown on the famous high banks for the first time in more than four years.

Outlaw Figure 8 racing at Anderson Speedway carries a rich and storied past. In 1980, the former RED, WHITE, and BLUE Open Competition Figure 8 Series debuted and drew huge crowds. Drivers from all over the Midwest regularly traveled to Anderson Speedway for the yearly series until it ended in the early 1990s.

Drivers who have captured Outlaw figure 8 events at Anderson over the years include: Kenny St. John, Billy Simmons, Jim Fox, Duane Lee, and Mike St. John among others. Several of the top Outlaw Figure 8 drivers from around the Midwest are expected to participate.

Indianapolis driver, Charlie Hargraves, who is expected to compete, was ecstatic when he heard the Outlaws were returning to Anderson. "To be able to race at the world's fastest quarter mile will be awesome and is something I have been waiting on for a long time. To be able to spread the word about Figure 8 racing is great and a great opportunity to introduce people to our form of Figure 8 racing”. Hargraves expects a good turn out of some of the top Outlaw Figure 8 drivers, "There will be some big names and several fast cars at the race. We will put on a great show for the fans of Anderson Speedway".

The event is expected to pay $1200 to the winner and $100 to start. Rules for this event are still being finalized and will be released in the near future. Further information on this event will be made available on the Anderson Speedway website: www.andersonspeedway.com as soon as it becomes available.
