Defending National Champion Jerry Coons Jr. had to take a provisional starting
spot, then finished 15th, while former series point leader Darren Hagen crashed
during a heat race and was unable to make the main event.
Hines’ finish put him in the series point lead going into next Saturday’s race
at Southern National Raceway in Kenly, N.C.
Caleb Armstrong of New Castle, Ind. emerged the winner of Sunday's 30-lap USAC
Kenyon Midget Series season opener at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. He thought
