Mad Cow Racing Sweep
The Kokomo based Mad Cow Racing team made the Spring Championship their own playground Saturday at Anderson Speedway.

The team took four of the five top spots during qualifying, swept the top four positions in the feature and walked away with the two heat race victories.

Gary Bragg Jr. grabbed the lead at the start of the feature pressed by Chris Teepe and teammate Jerry Dane. Frank Gasho in a Mad Cow Dodge Omni passed Mike Alley for the fifth position.

The caution waved for the first time on lap three for a multi-car crash in turn one, which bunched up the field.

Teepe attempted an inside pass on the restart entering turn one, but Bragg on the high side had the momentum to maintain the top position. For the next three laps Gasho and Gary Bragg Sr. swapped the fourth position until the next caution flag was waved.

It ended up being a bizarre few minutes. The cars of Kevin Harmon and David Powell got together on the back straight with Harmon coming to rest facing the wrong direction on the track.

Harmon then was driving the wrong way on the track looking to make a u-turn when he crashed head-on with Aaron Jones, ending both drivers night of racing.

On the restart Teepe visibly slowed and was passed first by Dane, then Bragg Sr. and Gasho. Alley claimed the fifth position with a pass of Teepe on the front straight after 13 laps.

Bragg Jr. won by 7.5 seconds over his father with teammates Dane, Gasho and Alley rounding out the top five. Teepe settled for sixth, a lap down to the leader.

“I looked at the scoreboard and it was a Mad Cow sweep,” Bragg Jr. said.

Bragg Sr. passed Jones on the second lap entering turn three and went on to his third heat win of the season followed by Dane and Gasho.

Muncie driver Brad Bell took the early lead in the second heat race and was chased by Trevin Henson and Ron Phipps, who both spun in turn four on the second lap.

That moved Teepe into second followed by Harmon, Alley and Bragg Jr. A lap later Alley and Bragg moved into the second and third spots and on the next circuit they both passed Bell on the front straight with an inside pass.

Bragg got inside Alley entering turn one halfway through the heat race to record his first heat victory of the year followed by Alley and Harmon. Bell settled for fourth and Phipps came home in fifth.
