Anderson Speedway Loses Another Veteran

(April 22, 2011) – The management and staff of Anderson Speedway are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Anderson Speedway Figure 8 Veteran Darwin P. Blankenship on Friday, April 22nd.

Darwin passed away in his home after a long bout with several illnesses. "Hook" as he was referred to by his friends, was a driver that was well liked by the fans and especially by the kids. He was a driver that always put the fans first and would never pass up the opportunity to talk to a fan or have his picture taken with a fan.

Darwin was most remembered at Anderson Speedway in the figure 8 course as he was always a treat to watch and a threat to take the checkered flag! Darwin was Track Champion in 1986 and 1988. He also won the prestigious National Crown four times in 1973, 1980 and in his Championship years of 1986 and 1988.

Calling will be at Macer-Hall Funeral Home, 600 S Main St, in New Castle from 4 to 9 pm on Tuesday, April 26th with the funeral on Wednesday, April 27th at 2pm. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens west of New Castle. Memorials may be directed to the Darwin Blankenship Fund in care of the funeral home.
