Warner Scores WMDH ThunderCar Win

(July 30, 2011) – Making a rare start in the WMDH Thunder Car division, Nick Warner set fast time and after a tight battle early in the race recorded the win during Holiday Inn Express night at Anderson Speedway on Saturday.

Warner took the early lead with Sam Folsom holding down the second spot for two laps before Lonny Burton used a power move down the back straight to move into the runner – position.

Hannah Lundy moved outside of Folsom on the front straight and then inherited the second spot when Burton suffered a flat right rear tire on lap seven.

From there Lundy closed on Warner but never mounted a serious challenge short of her third win of the year. Rose, Folsom and Rob Allman rounded out the top five.

Burton recorded the win in the heat race that saw plenty of action during the 10-lap run.

Rob Noel took the point at the start tailed by Frankie Oakes, Burton, Folsom and Shantel Banks. Burton and Folsom got inside of Oakes coming off the fourth corner on the second circuit and on lap four Burton was able to get inside of Noel entering turn three.

Folsom moved into the second position on lap six with an inside pass with Banks and Allman getting around Oakes on successive laps.

Noel got loose coming off the second corner and was passed by a pack of cars before he could recover the lost momentum.

At the finish it was Burton winning by 1.1-seconds over Folsom followed by Banks, Rose and Lundy.

Herald Bulletin qualifying was tightly packed with all the drivers within six-tenths of a second of the pole time posted by Warner at 14.879-seconds. Lundy was only .016-seconds behind Warner and Rose was one-tenth of a second behind the fastest qualifiers.
