Burton Holds Off Rose, Oakes, Lundy Get Heat Wins

(August 6, 2011) – Lonny Burton scored his third WMDH Thunder Car feature win of year at Anderson Speedway last Saturday, but it wasn’t without a strong challenge from Ronnie Rose.

With the inversion for the feature at five, Travis Burge and Lonny Burton started on the front row, but it was Burton that jumped into the early lead followed by Rose and Rob Allman.

On the second lap Herald Bulletin fast qualifier Hannah Lundy got inside of Burge on the front straight to move into the top four, which would be the running order to the finish.

But that didn’t mean there wasn’t plenty of action taking place. Rose for almost the entire distance kept using the front bumper to try and force Burton off the inside groove.

Finally on lap 23 Burton drifted high coming off the second corner, which allowed Rose to slip inside going down the back straight. But entering turn three Burton was able to maintain the point and went on to record the win.

“He was a little quicker than me,” Burton said of Rose. “I want to thank everyone for racing me clean.”

In the first of two heat races, Lundy got into the back end of Rob Allman entering turn three on the final lap. Allman spun and Lundy went on to record her first heat win of the season.

Burton took the early lead but spun on the third lap which have Allman the lead followed by Lundy.

At the finish it was Lundy, Rose, Burge, Allman and Burton.

In the second heat race Frankie Oakes led wire to wire for the victory followed by newcomer Chris Hannah and Jared Keller.
