Cater Drives to Late Model Title

(October 10, 2011) –  New Castle driver Terry Cater capped off the return of the Late Model season to Anderson Speedway with a feature win on his way to the championship during Ed Martin Toyota Championship night.

Back on Sept. 24 before rains washed out racing action, Cater set the fast time during Herald Bulletin qualifying and he started from the pole position on Saturday.

Cater jumped into the lead at the waving of the green flag chased by Fred Hopkins, Josh Cave, Joe Woodring and Danny Trent.

Trent was the driver on the move passing Woodring for fourth with an inside pass within the first four laps, then got inside of Cave entering turn three.

From lap seven to lap 17 the three front-runners Cater, Hopkins and Trent ran in a tight bunch. On lap 18 Trent got inside of Hopkins entering turn three and turned up the pressure on Cater.

Cave slowed on lap 23 while running fourth with an overheating problem. But the action was up front with Trent looking high and low for a way to get around Cater and several times he let Cater know he was there by a bump on the rear bumper.

At the finish it was Cater winning by .2-second over Trent with Hopkins a close third followed by Brock Anderson and Mark Parker.

Following his second place run, Trent said the team is planning on competing at Anderson Speedway on a regular basis in 2012.

“I knew he was back there,” Cater said of the win. “I knew if he was going to made the pass, he would have to go to the outside.”
