Banquet News & Notes; McGunegill Expanding Operations

By Ken de la Bastide

(November 13, 2012) –
During last Saturday’s Anderson Speedway awards banquet it was announced that McGunegill Engine Performance would be returning to sponsor the Late Model division in 2013.

Jim Mougeotte, representing the McGunegill family, said the company is moving from its current 5,000 square-foot facility to a new 15,000 square-foot building in the industrial park near the Muncie airport.

The move is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Mougeotte said the company is now the largest supplier of sealed racing engines in the country.

Mike McCarty announced that WMDH Hit Country 102.5 will return as sponsor of the 2013 Thunder Car season.

Plans for 2013

Veteran racer and car owner Herb Rose said he has sold all of his Street Stock and Thunder Car equipment and purchased a Hamke Racing Chassis for 2013 to go late model racing.

Rose’s son, Ronnie, will be at the wheel. Rose said he hasn’t decided on what power plant to use. He said the team is planning to run as many CRA Sportsman races as possible.

Although nothing official has been announced, Hannah Lundy the 2011 and 2012 Thunder Car champion was test driving a late model last weekend for car owner Ronald Hall.

Hall finished second in the 2012 point standings with Rose at the controls.

Track owner Rick Dawson announced there would be few if any changes in the rules for the Street Stock, Thunder Cars and Front Wheel Drive Oval divisions for 2013.

Dawson said a draft of the 2013 schedule would be posted in the near future.

He said the track will have a bigger presence next year on Facebook and Twitter.
