Thousands of fans filled Anderson Speedway for The Star Press Saturday Night Series as the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series made its first visit of the season on June 25. Fans were also treated to some great racing in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval division, Terry’s RV Sales and Service Street Stocks and Boss Hogg Catering and Jerky Figure 8’s.

Ohio’s Jimmy McCune scored the win in the H.O.S.S. 30-lap feature. The race began with Richie Jacobs sailing into the first position with McCune chasing him down as the laps began to click away. McCune completed the race winning-pass on the 17th circuit with an impressive move in traffic on the backstretch.

The race was halted on the 24th lap when fast qualifier Hank Lower’s car caught fire in the infield. Lower, who dropped out of the race two laps earlier, suffered minor burns on his legs.

After racing resumed, McCune pulled away over the course of the final six laps. At the checkers, Greg Wheeler held off a spirited battle from Tim Cox to place second. Michael Tarlton grabbed fourth-place honors with Ron Koehler completing the top-five finishers.

H.O.S.S. heat victories went to Tom Paterson, Chris Jagger and McKibben. Lower paced qualifying with a time of 10.564 seconds at 85.195 mph.

New Castle’s Danny Acrey II scored his first feature win of the season in the Terry’s RV Sales and Service Street Stocks, holding off point’s leader Rich Boyer of Anderson in an exciting two-car duel to the finish.

Boyer has made a habit of charging from the back of the field this season and Saturday night was no different. He advanced from 13th all the way to third during the opening three laps. Boyer then overtook Rod Phipps for second position on the 19th circuit. Acrey was able to keep Boyer at bay over the final 11 laps and earned a nose-to-tail win. Phipps, Wannamaker’s Jamie Hadley and Anderson’s Ryan Buckner also earned top five honors.

Anderson’s Curtis Chapman was victorious in the first Terry’s RV Sales & Service Street Stock heat race. Ryan Buckner scored his first heat win in the second 10-lap event. Boyer once again paced qualifying with a time of 14.117 seconds.

Nick Warner picked up his second Oval win of the season in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive division after passing fellow Anderson driver Travis Burge on the fifth of 15 laps. It was Warner’s third appearance in the Texas Roadhouse Winner’s Circle this weekend. He also won the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s feature and the Insight ThunderCar Oval feature during the MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series.

Sam Folsom, Travis Burge, Brad Stevens and Kreigh Leever filled out the remainder of the top five during Saturday night’s action. John Burge won the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval heat race. Dustin Burge led qualifying with a time of 16.243 seconds.

Ronnie Rose picked up his sixth feature win of the season in the Boss Hogg Jerky and Catering Figure 8 feature. He passed Michael Phipps on a lap three restart after several cars were involved in a pileup in the third turn. Rose then ran away from the field for a comfortable win. Phipps ended up second after tangling with Anderson’s Jeff Swinford in the crossover on the final lap. Fellow Anderson drivers Shawn Cullen, Chapman and Mike Riddle Jr. completed the top five.

Michael Phipps scored the win in the first Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 heat race while Middletown’s Ronnie Phipps was victorious in the second heat. Riddle was the top qualifier with a time of 20.396 seconds and drew a half-inversion for the start.
