Beau Mitchell Wins Advance Auto Parts Street Stock 250

Kentucky racer Beau Mitchell took the win in the 2nd Annual Advance Auto Parts Street Stock 250 at Anderson Speedway Sunday afternoon. Mitchell took home a $5,000 payday as a result of his winning drive on a beautiful fall day in a race slowed by 22 caution periods.

Mitchell was the beneficiary of some tough luck for 2005 Terry’s RV Sales and Service Champion Rich Boyer. Boyer took the lead from Mitchell on a lap 99 restart and paced the field until lap 176 when misfortune struck. Boyer tangled with slower traffic and went into wall in turn 3, flattening his right front tire and causing body damage. Boyer had to pit for repairs, giving Mitchell the point for the remainder of the race.

Mitchell had the strongest car during the final stages, while Danny Acrey was able to make up the difference in traffic. Mitchell was able to hold on despite mechanical difficulties that developed during the second half of the race.

Acrey saw his chance at winning come to an end on the 247th lap when he hit the wall coming out of turn two and onto the backstretch, giving the second place to Chuck Barnes of Louisville. Anderson drivers Ronnie Phipps and Jake Owens were followed by Acrey to complete the top five. Mitchell, Barnes and Phipps were the only three drivers on the lead lap at the finish.

Mitchell made it a complete day by capturing the pole during qualifying with a new track record. He toured the oval in 13.664 seconds for a speed of 65.867 mph.

In other racing a familiar name took the wheel of a new machine and still won the 25-lap Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive feature. Anderson’s Dustin Burge visited the Texas Roadhouse Winner’s Circle in a hotly-contested race among the top five drivers. Anderson’s Billy Beard, Alexandria’s Kevin Harmon, Anderson’s Devin Mitchell and Wilkinson’s Shawn Evans completed the top five.

Qualifying was paced by Anderson’s Travis Burge with a time of 15.966 seconds.
